Origami is the perfect way to blend art, mindfulness, and fun—all in a few folds. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned paper-folder, there's something magical about turning a simple sheet of origami paper into a beautiful creation. Let us show you some easy origami to help you transform your day with these delightful designs. Who knew a humble square of paper could hold so much potential?

1. Origami Crane

The origami crane is an iconic yet simple origami design and a classic symbol of peace and good fortune.

Start with a Square Base:

  • Place the origami paper coloured side up (if using coloured paper).

  • Fold the paper diagonally in both directions. Crease firmly and unfold to form an "X".

  • Flip the paper over and fold it in half vertically and horizontally to form a "+" crease.

  • Collapse the paper into a square base by bringing two opposite corners together. Flatten the paper so it forms a smaller square.

Create a Bird Base:

  • Position the square base with the open end at the bottom.

  • Fold the bottom edges of the top layer to the centreline, forming a kite shape. Crease well and unfold.

  • Lift the bottom flap and fold it upwards along the creases you just made to form a diamond.

  • Flip the paper and repeat on the other side to complete the bird base.

Shape the Crane:

  • Take the bottom edges of the diamond and fold them to the centreline on both sides. Repeat on the other side.

  • Fold one of the narrow ends upwards to form the neck.

  • At the tip of the neck, fold down a small section to create the crane’s head.

  • Gently pull the wings downwards to complete your crane.

2. Origami Butterfly

This delicate and beautiful, easy origami butterfly design adds charm to any space. 1 square sheet of origami paper (preferably thin and colourful).

Form a Triangle Base:

  • Place the origami paper coloured side down.

  • Fold the paper diagonally in both directions to create an "X."

Create a Waterbomb Base:

  • Flip the paper over and fold it in half horizontally and vertically to form a "+" crease.

  • Push the horizontal creases inward, collapsing the paper into a triangle (the waterbomb base).

Shape the Wings:

  • With the triangle base, fold the left and right corners of the top layer upward to meet the top point.

  • Flip the paper over and fold the bottom point upward, slightly past the top edge of the paper.

Finalise the Butterfly:

  • Fold the top point down to secure the layers.

  • Gently spread the wings outward, adjusting their shape to give them a fluttery appearance.

3. Origami Heart

Origami hearts are simple origami designs that work well as bookmarks, decorations, or gift toppers. A red or pink sheet of origami paper is a classic choice.

Start with Diagonal Folds:

  • Place the origami paper coloured side up.

  • Fold it diagonally in both directions to form an "X". Unfold after each crease.

Form a Triangle Base:

  • Fold the paper in half horizontally and vertically to form a "+" crease.

  • Push the horizontal folds inward, collapsing the paper into a triangle base.

Shape the Top of the Heart:

  • Take the top corners of the triangle and fold them down to the bottom point of the triangle. This creates the top "humps" of the heart.

Shape the Bottom of the Heart:

  • Fold the bottom tip upwards slightly to round off the bottom of the heart.

  • Tuck the folds into the base to secure the shape.

4. Origami Dog Face

This cute and fun paper craft activity is perfect for children and a great way to introduce them to folding techniques. Use colourful origami paper to mimic a real dog’s fur colour.

Fold a Triangle Base:

  • Fold the square paper diagonally to form a triangle. Ensure the fold is sharp and precise.

Create the Ears:

  • Fold the left and right corners of the triangle downward to form floppy ears. Adjust the angle depending on how big or small you want the ears to look.

Add the Face Details:

  • Use a black pen or marker to draw the dog’s eyes, nose, and mouth. Add freckles or whiskers for extra personality!

To further enhance your origami creations, consider customizing your designs with embellishments like googly eyes, glitter, or stickers. For a unique display of your origami paper craft, frame your artwork in a shadowbox. And don't forget to experiment with different sizes! Try folding mini or jumbo versions of each design to add fun variations to your creations.
